In a 25+ year career, he has won numerous music industry awards including 6 ASCAP AWARDS as a songwriter and recording artist, 2 KING EAGLE INTERNATIONAL AIRPLAY AWARDS, and Stevee was the ACADEMY OF INDEPENDENT RECORDING ARTIST Singer/Songwriter of the Year in 1996.
Recording with FRATERNITY RECORDS, one of the country's oldest independent labels, Steve has placed 6 songs on CASHBOX, BILLBOARD and THE National and International Indie Country/Folk Charts including a #1 song "WITHOUT YOUR LOVE" in 2002. His 1994 hit "SIEGE AT LUCASVILLE" about the 1993 Southern Ohio prison riot reached the TOP 20 of the CASHBOX CHARTS and was filmed by the CBS TV show 48 HOURS. His last CD "TIMELINE" was named one of the best Traditional Country/Folk Cd's of 2000 by Country Bunker Radio and ASCAP Magazine. He recently received a PLATINUM RECORD from AIRPLAY INTERNATIONAL for having over 100,000 units of airplay for TIMELINE.
As an OHIO ARTS COUNCIL "OHIO ARTIST ON TOUR" and a "MIDWEST ARTIST ON TOUR," Free is a mainstay on the arts, fairs & festivals, bookstores, college, coffeehouse circuit throughout the Midwest and South performing close to 200 shows a year. He was nominated for the prestigious GOVERNOR'S AWARD FOR THE ARTS IN OHIO in 1996 and again in 2000.
